The Indian Institute of space science and technology (IIST), an autonomous body under Department of Space was formed in 2007. IIST was set up with the primary objective of generating high quality human resources to meet the requirements of DOS/ISRO. IIST presently functions from a 100 acre campus at Valiamala, located about 18 Km from Thiruvananthapuram city.
IIST offers a range of academic programmes namely B.Tech, and M.Tech, with specific focus on space science and space technology and applications.
Admission to Under Graduate (B.Tech.) Programme 2013
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), announces admission to its 4-year B.Tech Degree Programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences for the Academic year 2013-14 to eligible Indian citizens.
B.Tech – Aerospace Engineering
Aerospace Engineering programme includes foundation level courses in Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Solid Mechanics and Material Science, and applied courses in Propulsion systems, Aerospace structures and Precision manufacturing processes for launch vehicles, aircrafts and spacecrafts.
B.Tech – Avionics
Avionics programme covers courses in Electronics Electrical Engineering that includes Control system, Digital Electronics, VLSI, MEMS design, Communication and Computer systems with thrust on aerospace vehicle and satellite system, flight navigation systems, satellite communication, microwave and antenna engineering.
B.Tech – Physical Sciences
Physical Sciences programme has been designed to cater to the science requirements of the country in general and space research in particular. The curriculum include foundation and advanced level courses on Applied Mathematics, Classical and Modern Physics as well as courses in the areas of space science such as Astronomy & Astrophysics, Remote Sensing and Earth System Sciences.
Procedure for Admission : Admission to Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) for the year 2013 will be based on the All India Rank List (including category rank list). The rank list for admission to IIST will be based on 60 % weightage of score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) – 2013 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and 40 % of normalized score in Class 12th or other qualifying examinations. Reservation of Seats: IIST follows the reservation policy of Government of India as applicable to Higher Educational Institutions for reservation of seats for various categories.
Assistantship: The full assistantship per semester for tuition fees, hostel accommodation and boarding, etc. shall be borne by IIST for every student, subject to performance standards set by IIST.
Placement: On successful completion of the Under Graduate Programme in IIST, students meeting specified academic standards of IIST will be absorbed in DOS/ISRO as Scientists / Engineers.

Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main) – 2013
Date of Birth
Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1988 are eligible. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates who were born on or after October 01, 1983 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered.
Year of Passing Qualifying Examination (QE)
Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2011 or 2012; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2013 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2013. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2010 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2014 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)-2013.
Candidates who appeared in class 12th/other Qualifying Examinations in 2010, did not pass in 2010, but passed in 2011 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013.
Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/any other Qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main). In the year 2013 however, the candidates who have taken four subjects are also permitted to write JEE 2013 as an exception.
Number of Attempts
The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).
Candidates Are Also Advised To Note The Eligibility For Appearing In Jee (Advanced) – 2013 As Well As Eligibility For Admission To Various institutes. By being Eligible To Write Jee (Main) And By Obtaining An All India Rank In Jee (Main), A Candidate Does Not Automatically Become Eligible For Admission.
Last Date for Receipt of the Confirmation Page
The computer generated Confirmation Page with photographs pasted, address written, signed by the candidate, signed by the parent and counter signed by the Principal/Gazetted Officer must reach the JEE (Main) Secretariat on or before 26th December 2012.
